The concordance of European and US definitions for healthcare-associated infections (HAI)
Results The study was performed on 47 ICUs and 6506 patients, 180 PN and 123 BSI cases. Agreement for PN was k= 0.99 (CI95 0.98;1.00). Public reporting of healthcare-associated infections is pervasive, with 33 states and the District of Columbia mandating public disclosure. We surveyed hospital epidemiologists on the perceived value of state public reports. Respondents believed consumers are unaware and do not consider the information important, but they indicated that epidemiologists have a role in consumer education.
